Q1: Can I really throw the JP R30S onto concrete from 5 meters?
A: Yes. The robot has been drop-tested from 5m onto concrete, asphalt, and tile floors. The chassis, cameras, and internal electronics survive with no functional damage. For maximum lifespan, we recommend dropping onto the reinforced bumper or track edges rather than directly on the camera dome.
Q2: How well does the thermal camera work through smoke?
A: The 384×288 uncooled thermal sensor detects body heat through light to moderate smoke, dust, and fog. Heavy smoke may reduce effective range to 3-5 meters, but still allows victim detection at close proximity.
Q3: What's the indoor range through concrete walls?
A: ≥50m through two standard concrete walls (20cm thickness each). In steel-framed buildings with rebar, expect 20-30m. For maximum indoor performance, keep the controller at a window or open doorway.
Q4: Is the robot waterproof? Can I submerge it?
A: IP67 means the robot can be submerged in up to 1m of water for 30 minutes. This protects against accidental drops into puddles, drainage channels, or during decontamination spray-down. However, the robot does not swim—it must be retrieved after submersion.
Q5: How do I charge the batteries?
A: The included multi-battery charger charges two robot batteries simultaneously in about 2 hours. The controller has a built-in battery charged via USB-C (included). All batteries are lithium-ion with overcharge protection.
Q6: Can I record video from the robot?
A: Yes. The controller has a dedicated record button that captures both visible and thermal feeds simultaneously (side-by-side or picture-in-picture). Videos and screenshots are saved to a microSD card (up to 128GB, not included).
Q7: What's the difference between this and a drone?

Q8: How do I maintain the robot?
A: After each deployment, wipe down the cameras and tracks. For dirty/muddy conditions, rinse with fresh water and dry (IP67 allows washing). Every 50 hours of runtime, inspect tracks for wear and check seals around the camera housing. No special tools required.
Q9: Can it climb stairs?
A: Yes, standard indoor stairs (up to 18cm riser height). Approach at a perpendicular angle and the wheel-track composite system will self-adjust. For very steep or narrow stairs, use the controller's "stair mode" for optimized torque distribution.
